Ayurveda experience for Spa Week

As a SPAcialist and facialist, we aim at always looking for new facial massage techniques, which is why the "Kansa Wand Face Massage with Dosha Balancing Foot Treatment" exotic name @ Spa 66, Fort Lauderdale sprung our curiosity.

I already knew about the concept of Doshas in Ayurvedic treatments - stay tuned for upcoming post - but was yet to find out about the Kansa Wand Face Massage, i could only guess I was in for a treat.

Let me tell you first about Spa 66, even though located in Pier 66 Hotel & Marina is more a day spa than a resort spa. Still, the 9 treatment rooms and amenities gives it all the legitimacy to compete with those last mentioned.

As soon as you enter the Spa, you dive into a luxurious marine experience. It's all sparkles, diamonds and Swarovski subtly highlighting the aquarium and marine decoration.

After a smooth check-in process, I was lucky to experience private steam room and lockers, even though the spa was fully booked! I arrived early enough that guests were still in treatments, allowing to immediately disconnect and enter the indulging experience...That is luxury!

Then my treat began... As my esthetician helped me set up in the treatment room, my hopes were really high. I very rarely trust anyone with my face, but the curiosity about that face massage was stronger.

Starting with a relaxing essence inhalation, the esthetician turns on the steam, and the trip begins...More than a facial massage, it is a full facial treatment, including cleansing, pumpkin enzymatic exfoliation, light extractions and cooling mask with high frequency.

Follows the ultimate relaxation phase... the esthetician first uses a facial oil, to provide a gentle and extremely relaxing facial massage, loosening up tight muscles and stimulating the face "marma" points (energy points in the body used for healing in Ayurveda. They can be compared to acupuncture points in Chinese Medicine), very effective to boosting circulation of blood and energy.

The Kansa Wand is then used on the face. Kansa is considered to be the healing metal of Ayurveda, the Science of Health and Longevity practiced throughout the East. Known to have extraordinary beauty enhancing and soothing properties, Kansa has a powerful effect as a stress reliever, for relaxation and the subtle body energies known in Eastern medicine. The Kansa metal wand feels very cooling and soothing on the skin, the pressure used is light and I definitely felt the stress-relieving benefits, as almost entering into a "zone", another level of consciousness.

After this hypnotizing face massage, the esthetician layers a face mask. While the mask is on and working its miracle, a small kansa metal bowl is used to massage the feet, after a gentle foot rub. Again, the stress-relief is immediate and you finish the facial holding on to that feeling of absolute plenitude. The feeling was similar to the sensation of lightness and mindfulness after Shavasana, in yoga practice.

The benefits of this transcendent experience also showed on my skin, that I hadn't seen that fresh and glowing in a long time. All inflammations were soothed, the complexion was bright and even, and the skin felt wrapped in a cocoon of softness.

The fact that parking is complementary flawlessly adds to the luxurious experience.

Namaste to Spa 66 for a well-delivered Spa Week experience! This Spa offers a wide variety of facials and massages (Bamboo Massage or Swarovski Crystal Ear Gem Acupuncture might be next... :)

The SPAcialist wellness tip: even though I was very lucky to enjoy the amenities privately, it is usually not the case on weekends. Monday mornings/early afternoon are ideal to find that quiet space.
