The healing ocean.... a French escapade

Updated: Mar 26, 2022

Let’s just say it, quarantine and post confinement were challenging, physically and mentally and there’s only that much self-care you can do at home , but when you are a massage and spa aficionado, those cravings take over.

As i was fortunate to fly back to France, my home country, I headed to the beautiful city of Saint-Malo, in Brittany, on the Northwestern Coast, across the English channel, worldwide praised for its authentic walled city as well as its Thermal Facilities, “ Les Thermes de Saint Malo”.

The environment provides all the best elements that make “thalassotherapy”: a form of therapy combining the proven benefit of the ocean climate and the sea water, rich in seaweed to prevent or cure chronic diseases such as joint pains, depression, blood pressure, tiredness, post traumatic physical reeducation, and by extension overall well-being.

Of the 13 modalities of hydrotherapy, I selected:

*Pool jet - focus on cervical or lumbar. Series of gentle exercises to allow jets to relax your cervical or lumbar area - to your election.

*Sea drainage: on a table, the therapist uses a high-pressure jet perfectly positioned along your body to stimulate blood and lymphatic circulation, helping to drain toxins and excess fluid, providing immediate alleviation of legs discomfort due to water retention!

*Ondorelax: relaxing on a water bed, this dry treatment targets specific trigger points with water jets vertically sprayed at high pressure along the back of your body. Did I mention the light and aroma therapy, to literally drift away?

As the weather is very changing in this part of the coast, choose a rainy day to stay indoor and purposely have the sea water rain on you.

All equipment ensure you can spend the full day onsite: famous Aquatonic water circuit where targeted jets and waterfalls will completely revitalize you, swimming pool, water aerobics, fitness center, sauna, steam room.... it is all about feeling well within, no muss no fuss.

If you want that luxury pampering on top, head to the spa, offering facial treatments and a variety of massage modalities...

To stimulate all your senses, head for lunch at the gastronomic restaurant Cap Horn, for an absolute taste bud delight.... and head back to the pool to burn it off, or just jump in the ocean right across the hotel.

The beautiful Saint-Malo city really has it all to satisfy your wellness cravings...and all types of cravings with some the most deliciously praised food in the country, you just need to decide between crepes or seafood. Brittany is chosen as one of French people’s favorite region.

Saint-Malo is also where the beautiful marine brand Phytomer was born, where it welcomes you in its magic flagship spa.

Saint-Malo has it all.
